Departd — Privacy Policy
The short version: Departd works out when to wake you and when to leave by reading your calendar and location on your iPhone. Most of that work happens on the device. A small amount of data does leave it: map coordinates to get the weather, flight numbers to check flight status, anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to keep the app working, and (if iCloud is on) your settings and saved places so they follow you to a new phone. We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. We don't ask for your name or email, and there is no Departd account.
1. Introduction
Departd ("we," "our," or "the app") is developed by Christopher Radtke. This policy explains what information the Departd iOS app uses, what leaves your device, who receives it, and the choices you have.
2. Information the app uses on your device

3. Services that receive data
- Apple (WeatherKit, MapKit and Maps search). Your location and your events' addresses are sent to Apple to get the weather, calculate routes and look up addresses. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- OpenWeatherMap (backup weather provider). Receives latitude and longitude only, with no name or calendar details, when Apple's weather service is unavailable. openweather.co.uk/privacy-policy
- AviationStack (flight status). If an upcoming event looks like a flight, the app automatically finds a flight code in the event's title, location or notes (for example "UA 456") and sends that code and the travel date to AviationStack to check its status. It rechecks while the flight is upcoming. Nothing else from your calendar is sent.
- RevenueCat (subscriptions). Receives your App Store purchase records, a random ID RevenueCat creates for your copy of the app, and the ID Apple assigns to Departd on your iPhone (not the advertising ID), so your subscription works. It receives no name, email, calendar or location data. revenuecat.com/privacy
- TelemetryDeck (anonymous usage statistics). Receives app events: that the app was opened, plus steps such as "finished setup", "set first alarm", "viewed subscription screen", "started trial", "subscribed" and "opened morning briefing". Each event carries a random identifier the app creates for itself, which is not your device ID or an advertising ID, and basic technical details: device model, iOS version, language, time zone, and how many days you have used the app. The "set first alarm" event, and later subscription events, also record one broad category for your first alarm: a flight, an early start before 7 a.m., or other. The name, time, place and any other details of your calendar events are never sent. We use this only to understand which parts of the app work and which don't. telemetrydeck.com/privacy
- Sentry (crash and performance reports). If the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, it sends a technical report: device model, iOS and app version, what the app was doing, and a record of recent technical steps. That record can include the addresses of recent requests to the services above, which may carry the map coordinates used for a weather lookup or a flight code. Reports are not linked to your name or email, and screenshots are never included. sentry.io/privacy
- GitHub (only if you send feedback). If you use the in-app feedback form, the message you write goes to our private GitHub issue tracker, along with an optional screenshot you choose, your device model, iOS and app versions, the app's current state and recent app logs.
We do not sell or rent data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. iCloud sync (Apple)
If iCloud is on for Departd, the app saves these to Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store so they come back when you reinstall or switch phones:
- Your settings: preparation times, transport and navigation preferences, alarm sound, theme and similar.
- Places you have saved for recurring events: the event name, the address you entered, and its map coordinates.
- Multi-stop routes you have saved: their names, the events they match, and their stops.
Apple encrypts this data in transit and when stored. Your full calendar and your movement history are not synced.
5. What we do not do
- We don't ask for or collect your name, email address or account login. There is no Departd account.
- We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't access your device's advertising identifier.
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't send the results of the installed-app check anywhere.
6. On-device processing
Calendar analysis, wake-up and departure calculations, learning your preparation times, event classification, virtual-meeting detection, streaks, wellness suggestions and routine insights are all worked out on your iPhone. Data leaves the device only as described in Sections 3 and 4.
7. Storage, security and retention
Your home and work addresses, home coordinates, your parking location and the contacts you choose to share your arrival time with are stored in the iOS Keychain. They are locked to this device and readable only while it is unlocked. Other app data sits in the app's own storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS's built-in device encryption.
Most location history the app keeps (arrival records and travel-time patterns) is deleted automatically after 90 days, and overnight location samples after 7 days. Places and routes you save, and addresses you have confirmed, are kept until you delete them or remove the app.
8. Wellness and transport app links
Departd can open partner apps such as Peloton, Headspace, Strava, Uber, Lyft, Google Maps or Waze. It does this with links only. Departd does not sign in to your accounts in those apps and exchanges no data with them.
9. Children's privacy
Departd is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your choices
- Permissions: you can turn off calendar, reminders, location or notification access at any time in iOS Settings. The app keeps working with fewer features (for example, setting alarms by hand).
- iCloud sync: turn it off in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud. Data already on your phone is not deleted.
- Deleting your data: removing Departd deletes everything it stores on your iPhone. To remove synced data, turn off iCloud sync for Departd before removing the app. Usage statistics and crash reports aren't linked to your identity, but if you would like them deleted, email us and we will ask our providers to delete what they can match.
- Subscriptions: manage or cancel them in your Apple ID settings in the App Store.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
